Background

Ellevio AB (publ) is one of Sweden’s largest distribution network operators. Ellevio invests in, develops and maintains the company’s power grids in order to ensure a reliable electricity supply to the 941,000 customers. Our customers are spread across Mid-Sweden, the West Coast and the Stockholm area. By investing in a long-term sustainable power grid Ellevio works to improve the quality of life for its customers as well as to enable the ongoing energy transformation and the continued digitization of the society. Ellevio, which has its head office in Stockholm, is owned by the Third National Pension fund, Folksam, the First National Pension fund and OMERS Infrastructure.

Ellevio handles large amounts of information in various systems linked to the energy consumption from the company's approximately 940,000 customers. Ellevio is in the final phase of a large-scale public procurement for a new smart meter population and underlying systems, e.g. related to ensuring compliance with the new functional requirements on electricity meters set out by the Swedish Energy Market Inspectorate. The new smart grid infrastructure will be initiated in 2020 and fully developed in 2023, at which point the smart meters in Ellevio’s grid will e.g. be fitted with a local customer interface, for local extraction of customer electrical energy data.

Ellevio believes that in order to achieve faster customer engagement in relation to the individual power consumption and the energy transition as a whole - within our customer base - the business model needs to meet the following criteria’s. (1) The entry cost must be as low as possible e.g., a subscription-service or similar model is preferred were the different customer segments can add future services as they become more mature. (2) The hardware needed must be available at low cost and functionality prioritized over design. Ellevio now wants to know what the market has to offer in terms of an increased user experience for our customers, and, subsequently;

Ellevio now wants to investigate the market for:
(1) A visualization tool (software, e.g. web GUI, mobile app or similar), which motivates the user to be interested in their energy use and motivates to changed behaviour and enables the customer to take part of the information about their own actual electrical energy consumption and/or production in near real time. Also enabling the optional addition of new services (e.g.) energy consulting or smart home applications or similar services, and
(2) A communication tool (hardware) that can connect to the customer local interface of the smart electricity meters and send the data to the customers’ appliance(s), which enables the costumer to not only monitor but also control electricity consumption to price signals. Such communication tool should be compatible with the Industry Recommendation for Customer Local Interface for Electricity Meters (Sw. Branschrekommendation för lokalt kundgränssnitt för elmätare), set out by Swedenergy AB (Sw. Energiföretagen Sverige). The focus should be on user-friendliness and customer benefits.

Within Ellevio, high demands are set out for information (e.g. meter data) to be handled in a confidential and correct manner and that the information is accessible at all times. Ellevio is or may be,
